On February 26, Jay Kim attended the “2014 New Year’s Greetings Ceremony” held in Seoul by the Korea-China Leaders Society and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Korea. About 300 people attended the event, including the Chinese ambassador and various current and former Korean government officials and political leaders.
On February 26, Jay Kim’s Future Korea-U.S. Foundation signed an agreement with Osan to join the efforts for the “Task Force Smith Commemoration Project”.
Kim, who was inspired by the historical significance of the U.N. Forces First Battle Memorial after his recent visit, has been exchanging ideas with Osan on various commemoration programs concerning Task Force Smith’s participation in the Korean War.
Kim’s foundation will help Osan to identify the members, and surviving members, of the task force, to invite the members to Korea and support battle memorabilia donation, and to promote the memorial and build a website for the members and their families.
The memorial was opened in April last year to honor the sacrifice of Task Force Smith, the first U.S. force to battle North Korean forces in the Korean War, at Jukmiryeong.
